Outcome / Summary
The Department of Physics organized an educational field visit to Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SHAR), Sriharikota on 05 March 2026 under the DBT STAR College Scheme funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India.
A total of 30 Physics Major and Minor students, accompanied by faculty members, participated in the visit. The field trip provided students with an excellent opportunity to gain firsthand exposure to India's space research and launch facilities.
During the visit, students toured the two launch pads, Signal Centre, Space Museum, and Theatre, where a short documentary film showcasing the achievements and activities of the Indian space program was screened. The students showed keen interest in learning about space physics, satellite launches, and the scientific experiments associated with space research.
The journey also offered an opportunity to observe the scenic beauty of Pulicat Lake, where students enjoyed watching migratory and local birds in their natural habitat. The visit was both educational and enjoyable, and the students greatly appreciated the experience.
Outcome of the Visit
The field visit successfully created awareness and enthusiasm among students toward space science, research, and allied activities. It enhanced their understanding of space technology and its applications while providing practical exposure beyond the classroom. The visit also fostered teamwork, cooperation, and group behavior among the participants. Overall, the program inspired students to explore career opportunities and higher studies in the field of space research and related scientific disciplines.
