About the Department

About the Department: The Department of Biotechnology was established in 2001. It offers a restructured course with a combination of botany and chemistry (B. Sc.,- Bt. B. C) as English is the medium of instruction. From 2023-24, students can choose biotechnology as minor subject (shift from three majors to single major system). Well-equipped laboratory is the characteristic feature of the department. The faculty has received research grant from UGC in 2015. The Department conducted a UGC-sponsored one day National Workshop on recombinant DNA (rDNA) technology on 21st February 2015 and Two-day lecture workshop was organized with the support of the Science academies on 19th and 20th January 2023 on “Recent Trends in Genetics”. It offers certificate course on “Basic concepts in Microbiology” for the academic year 2024-25.
